Relive The TV Show in This Racing Game
Street Outlaws: The List is the racing video game adaptation of the popular American reality TV series, Street Outlaws, on Discovery Channel. Similar to the premise of the show, you get to compete against other racers by building, customizing, and racing your way towards the renowned “List” of Oklahoma. Like other racing games, Street Outlaws: The List lets you play in either single-player or local multiplayer.
TV Racing
The reality TV show Street Outlaws is known as Discovery Channel’s unscripted look on risky American street racing. It paints a tough competition between various enterprising racers and mechanics who see The List—the top 10 racers of Oklahoma—as the Holy Grail of their automotive careers. Various characters have come and gone throughout the dozen or so seasons that the show had aired, and The List placements have constantly undergone change because of all the rematches the racers have taken. Underneath the drama of the show, however, the premise remains the same: it’s a risky competition that threads the thin line between what’s legal and what’s not.
Spotlight on the Streets
In this game adaptation, you don’t control any of the show’s iconic characters—instead, you are your own character, with your very own racing vehicle that you can use to compete for a spot on The List. There are hundreds of customizable car parts that you can play it to pimp up your ride and 24 unique vehicles available for you to modify—all from the show itself. There are four game modes you can try: Drag Racing, Challenges, Tuning, and Quick Play. You can do a single-player run or play with your friends in multiplayer mode with the local four-player co-op on a shared or split-screen view.
Hit or Miss
As a video game adaptation, Street Outlaws: The List seems to embody the racing part well enough. However, there’s not much else that you can do in the game and considering that half of the show contains human drama and interaction, it’s a bit disappointing to see that the game focused more on the cars. You can try this as an alternative to popular racing games but don’t expect too much.
