Block automatic Windows updates
Developed by an indie developer named David Le Bansais, Kill-Update is a lightweight utility tool that helps prevent your Windows 10 system from automatically installing updates. Although, you can still manually disable it when it’s convenient for you to install the new Windows updates. As there is no built-in option to stop the automatic updates, this third-party program gives you the power to execute that just like other related software such as Windows Update Blocker or StopUpdates 10.
Two-click solution
Using this user-friendly tool requires minimal two-click interaction for its function to be enabled by users. You will see a padlock icon on your system tray. You will only need to right-click on that icon and select the ‘Locked’ option. Afterward, all the automatic updates will be blocked as the tool will then constantly monitor your operating system, to observe if any Windows Update services are running. If it finds any, it disables them.
This software is portable, although you will need to run it with administrator privileges as it deals with system-related services. If ever you are relying on Windows Defenders’ security, make sure to enable Windows Defender’s ‘Allowed’ option as it is included in the Windows Services that this program disables updates for. To download the recent release, just disable the ‘Locked’ option from the tool’s tray menu, and it will allow you to update your Windows OS again.
You can also monitor what the program does by enabling its ‘logging’ feature. Just move the executable to a separate folder then, create a document and name it as Settings.txt. Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder and copy the full path. After that, open the file you created and paste the path into the document, just save and close it. Lastly, you must launch Kill-Update again, and it will begin storing its log in the file.
Gives time to ensure the update is safe
Kill-Update software is specifically useful for those who prefer to delay installing updates, just so they can ensure that it doesn’t bring in bugs, damages your data, or worse, make your system unbootable. This is a handy app but it also requires a bit of effort to maintain because you always have to manually check and re-enable updates. Nevertheless, it is unobtrusive to your workflow and is an easy to use utility to have around.
