Free ChatGPT add-on for word processors

docGPT is a free-to-use utility from Cesar Huret. This small script, built upon various programming languages, integrates the ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot into your Google Doc file. It essentially lets you type your writing prompt into the online document file and directly export it to the online AI text generation tool.

With the docGPT integrated into your word processor, you can easily access the online AI chatbot without having to open a separate browser. To boost your GPT usage online, you can also check out ChatGPT Export and Share, GPT site checker, or GPTrue or False.

Directly access an AI chatbot

Aside from Google Docs, docGPT also works with Microsoft Word. Either way, it works as an extension that is both reliable and easy to deploy. However, it requires an active internet connection, and the initial setup can be challenging. MS Word has to be allowed and activated as a macro within the Developer option. For Google Docs, you only need to activate and authorize the extension.

Once the initial hurdles are done, you can enjoy this AI-driven tool as much as you want. Using this tool saves you time. Instead of opening an internet browser, going to the ChatGPT website, typing in your prompt, and waiting for the result, you can all do these things directly from your word processor. It responds just as fast, making it an excellent tool, especially for students and writers.

Of course, as an extension for existing word processors, the file is no longer available for download as a discrete file pack. Additionally, it does not support other word processors, whether web-based or on-premise software. Aside from these restrictions, users have also reported encountering Error 502, or Bad Gateway, which has something to do with the routing of the script.

A next-gen extension

As AI tools become commonplace, docGPT is positioning itself as a must-have, especially for users who regularly need to generate bodies of text. Although it is primarily designed for Google Docs and Microsoft Word, it is good at what it does. It saves time and works just as fast as going to the ChatGPT website. Despite a few and isolated issues, it’s still highly recommended.
