COD goes back to WWII

Call of Duty: Vanguard is a first-person shooter game developed by Sledgehammer Games. As the name suggests, this is the next chapter in the legendary action series. However, instead of foraying more into more modern-day war, it goes back to World War II.

Despite its similar setting, however, Vanguard will not be a sequel to Call of Duty: WWII as it comes with new characters and its storyline. Additionally, the game will share gameplay similarities introduced in Modern Warfare. It will also come with a brand-new Champion Hill mode, a combination of Counter-Strike, Warzone, and Apex Legends’ Arena.

What does the game offer?

Call of Duty: Vanguard serves as the eighteenth installment in the overall Call of Duty saga. As mentioned, it returned the franchise to its World War II roots. Here, players can experience influential WWII battles on the eastern and western fronts of Europe, as well as the Pacific and North Africa. The game comes with new characters and a storyline that features the birth of the early special forces units.

Vanguard’s multiplayer mode launched with 20 maps, 16 of which are featured for the core game. The other four, meanwhile, are for the brand-new Champion Hill mode. This mode is the next iteration of Gunfight, the 2V2 arena mode previously introduced in Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War. The game also integrates with COD: Warzone, allowing players to progress and use weapons, operators, and cosmetics across both titles.

Furthermore, players can fight the undead as the game brings in the Zombie mode introduced in Black Ops Cold War Story.  However, there are maps where spawning is a problem. Additionally, the mechanics for the 2X2 battles, which focuses more on preserving lives, diminishes the fun and fairness. Instead of fighting fairly, there is a lot of camping and hiding, especially if the team has an inferior life count.

Should you play it?

Overall, Call of Duty: Vanguard is a neat new addition to the franchise. Although it is yet another World War II game, it features a new storyline and offers new gameplay mechanics. It also introduces a new multiplayer mode and brings in fan-favorite modes from other COD games. Some battles are not as gripping as what the other titles offer. Nevertheless, it is still a whole lot of fun.
