Enjoy minimalist blogging

WriteFreely is a free and open-source federated blogging platform developed by Write.as. It allows you to have a minimalist and distraction-free writing environment wherein you can also enjoy a neat reading experience. It offers a fast and curtailed editor that enables you to rapidly write your thoughts down and publish it immediately as a blog post. You also have the power to host your own community of writers and interact with a decentralized social web via ActivityPub. WriteFreely is used to empower more than 50,000 blogs over the past years.

Simple yet powerful blogging platform

WriteFreely is built with the main focus on one activity: writing. It is evident in its user interface that as much as possible, your eyes and mind should be free from alerts, feeds, or any distracting content that you’ll usually find in traditional social networking apps—leading users to coin this as a “social media hater’s blogging platform.” Once you launch WriteFreely, you will immediately be redirected to a blank writing editor page, allowing you to deeply think and type in your thoughts and click Publish if you’re done.

However, underneath its plain interface lies a sophisticated API with encrypted SEO best practices, an organized hashtag system, supported linking of photos and videos, and Markdown and MathJax rendering. On top of that, WriteFreely allows users of Mastodon, Pleroma, or any ActivityPub-enabled service to follow your blog, bookmark your posts, and share them with their followers—which can enable you to reach more readers.

WriteFreely is written in Go (golang) and built with Leaner Style Sheets (LESS) and some plain Javascript on the frontend. This gives you the power to efficiently understand and modify the app to your liking. You can also deploy it anywhere as long as you have basic experience with the command line and access to a server wherein you can run an executable. This is a highly recommended blogging platform, especially for minimalist lovers.
