Fantasy deck-building strategy game for PC

Banners of Ruin is a premium action title for PC by developer MonteBearo. It is a deck-building game that features strategic turn-based battles. In it, players control anthropomorphic characters as they try to stop a plot of deceit and corruption that is emerging from within their city.

Just like Inscryption and Slay the Spire, Banners of Ruin is a card battle game that lets players form a team of up to six characters, and fight enemies using a deck of unique skills and abilities. They will need to carefully consider various factors in which cards they bring to encounters.

Road to ruin

Banner of Ruin is set in the fantasy medieval city of Dawn’s Point, wherein two main factions are competing for control and dominance, namely House Blackfoot and fearsome and corrupted House Enders. Having been struck a heavy blow and incurred major losses, the Blackfoots are now planning to infiltrate the enemy camp and strike a major blow of their own, and you will take part in this insurgency.

Build a team of six members to take on this mission from six races, each with its own unique strengths and weaknesses to consider. As they level up, you will unlock talent cards and passives that will determine the tide of your battles. Face a variety of enemies as you make your way to defeat the Guard Captain and deal a crippling blow to the Enders’ whole faction.

The game also features roguelike elements in which each failed attempt will reward you with tokens that you can use to unlock more cards and passives for your next run. Some things could be improved though. The first is that battles tend to be rather slow, and there is no fast-forward option. The second is some game balance issues with enemy matchups.

A solid deck-building game

If you’re a fan of deck-building games, Banners of Ruin is a good option that is worth checking out. The gameplay is solid and its medieval setting and distinct anthropomorphic characters offer a different experience that warrants a try for yourself. While not without its issues, it gets plenty of things right that make up for some of its faults. Recommended.
