Free whiteboard from Skype
IDroo is a free productivity application from Iteral Group. This app works like a virtual whiteboard that you can share with multiple users. With this, you can teach, learn, or collaborate with other people in real-time.
IDroo is Skype’s version of a whiteboard. With this, you can easily connect to your Skype contacts. Like Microsoft Whiteboard and Scriblink, everything you write or draw on the whiteboard will be visible to all participants. More than drawing and writing tools, the app also offers professional math typing features. This makes it easier to teach or work through math problems collaboratively.
Getting started with IDroo
As mentioned, IDroo is integrated with the popular messaging application Skype. You can easily connect with your Skype contacts and share with them your whiteboard. From your Skype window, click the Allow IDroo access button. This allows this app to use your contact information. Then, launch your IDroo app and click the plus button in the Participants window. A list of your Skype contacts will appear, and you can choose one or more participants. Then, click the Add button.
Note that each participant must have the IDroo app on their device for them to access your board. Once they accepted your invitation to the session, they will be able to see your scribbles on the board. The app supports unlimited participants. This makes it a great option for online classes or team collaboration. Not only that, but it also offers an infinite board in all directions. With this, you won’t run out of space for your ideas.
Helpful tools
IDroo does everything you may expect from an online whiteboard. As mentioned, it comes with an endless board, allowing you to have an infinite canvas for all your ideas. The app supports freehand, lines, shapes, and text, so you can draw and write whatever you want. Moreover, the app allows you to edit them by providing different fonts and stroke widths. There are also tons of colors to choose from, so you can color-code your scribbles.
Furthermore, you can upload documents, such as PDF and Word, to your canvass by pasting or dragging the file to the board. Moreover, you can lock the document pages to the background to work on them easily. Besides documents, you can also upload images in PNG and JPG formats. As with the text and drawings, all files uploaded to the board can be edited.
As noted, the program comes with a built-in mathematics typing tool. With it, you can open up a formula toolbar and find the equations that you need to use. This makes the app great for tutorials and online classes. Users should note that IDroo does not support audio. But, since it is integrated with Skype, you can use both services simultaneously.
Aside from the lack of audio support, there are other drawbacks to the app that needs serious consideration. For one, the controls are slightly awkward. It won’t be a problem if you are using a tablet with a stylus pen. However, on a PC with a mouse, drawing can be tricky. Moreover, the service can be quite laggy, especially if you have many participants on the board. Finally, some advanced tools, such as document upload, are only available in the paid version.
Interactive whiteboard
All in all, IDroo is a whiteboard alternative that you can use for your online teaching or team collaboration. The app offers all the basic tools that you would expect from a whiteboard. Moreover, it supports unlimited participants and comes with an infinite board to cater to everyone’s ideas. It comes with a few limitations and drawbacks. Nevertheless, it is a useful service for both business and educational purposes.
