Premium tower defense game

Touhou Monster TD is a paid strategy game from MyACG Studio. This tower defense game features the premise, characters, and locations from the popular multiplatform franchise Touhou Project. This deceptively simple game lets you control and unlock characters, level them up, and use them in varying configurations to ensure that none from the monster horde crosses the map.

Touhou Monster TD might not be as engaging or challenging for fans of the tower defense genre as other titles like Plants vs Zombies or Last Hope – Tower Defense. It’s limited in content, yet it’s appealing to fans of the genre.

Anime girls as towers

Technically a tower defense game, Touhou Monster TD allows you to control humans and yokai, depicted here in chibi anime style, to act as defenders. They vary in attack and attribute, offering different strategic possibilities. Additionally, it separates itself from the genre standard of being static by giving you a controllable character that puts the “towers” in position. It makes the game more immersive and slightly challenging.

As was previously mentioned, its graphics uses the same anime style that makes it immediately familiar and endearing, especially to the fans of the Touhou franchise. It also features top-tier graphics that give players the incentive to upgrade and try out other characters. Shoot lightning, cast fireballs, or open portals, and see effects that are engaging to witness in action.

Lastly, it’s nice to see popular locations in Gensokyo being recreated in the game—Human Village, Hakurei Shrine, Scarlet Devil Mansion, and more. However, the main issue in this game has to be the difficulty scaling. The game doesn’t feel difficult at any point in the game, despite it having different levels. Also, after some time, the enemies start repeating themselves with only minor changes in their respective stats.

A fitting Touhou entry

It may be a fanmade game but Touhou Monster TD pays enough tribute to the source material to be considered a part of every fan’s game library. It uses the same designs as other entries from the franchise and pays extra effort to make the skill animation look smooth and amazing. It’s a good game in terms of content, but its difficulty could definitely be improved.
