More match three “fun” from LINE

In its continuing quest to take over your mobile phone, Japanese chat app LINE has decided that one version of its POP game is not enough, so here is number two in the series. You must already have LINE installed to play this game.

Match three – again

LINE POP2 is a another match-three game that bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor. If you’re ever played a match-three game before then you’ll be extremely familiar with the gameplay: match three or more cute characters to gain points and win the round.

Gameplay in LINE POP2 gets harder as you go along, and you can gain various boosters and power ups by matching more of the cute characters. It’s very simple to master, and never really provides much of a challenge.

Beat your friends

LINE POP2 is a cute, sickly-sweet game that seems to be most appealing to teenagers and children. The main selling point of the game, if you and your friends are regular LINE users, is that there is a leader board that keeps track of how well you are all doing with prompts to up the ante.

For example, before you start a round, LINE POP2 will tell you if none of your friends have already completed the level and offer you extra points if you become the first. It really taps into our competitive nature.

One for LINE fans

LINE POP2 is not a bad game – it’s slick and well designed- it just doesn’t add anything new to the genre (or even provide anything that its predecessor didn’t). But if you’ve bought into the whole LINE ecosystem and you like competing with your friends then I’m sure you’ll enjoy the game.
