A third-person shooter that provides every kind of challenge
Haydee is a game aesthetically reminiscent of Portal but much more focused on combat and exploration. You control Haydee, perhaps the only living android in an industrial complex full of unsympathetic and deadly drones. You must explore, fight and discover, with no guidance and only a few things to make life livable.
A world of muted colors and few options
Lest the headline sound like a negative, it’s not. At least, in the right frame of mind. Haydee provides no regeneration except through healing items, limited saving, hidden items to stuff into a small inventory, and absolutely no guidance outside of whatever you yourself can muster. The game is about exploration and survival in an unforgiving world, cramped yet sprawling, that you explore at your own pace.
Tone it down
All that said, there’s a bit in the marketing about how “sexy” the titular character is. Her proportions are definitely made that way, and the camera angles emphasize it, but it feels somewhat out-of-place. It doesn’t help that she is absolutely faceless, much like a mannequin, as are many of the other (dead) androids in the complex. If you can look past this, or even enjoy it, Haydee is every bit the action-packed, difficult exploration game the above paragraphs describe, and is worth your time.
