See the proverbial frog in a pot

Froggy Pot is a free-to-play visual novel developed by Cantusmori. In this anime-style simulator, you get to talk to a cute character dressed in a froggy onesie. The water starts warm but will be reaching its boiling point soon; you have to convince the little frog to get out. Depending on your choices, conversations start to get deep and personal.

With its art style and short playthrough, Froggy Pot is an enjoyable experience if you’ve tried playing Cinderella Phenomenon or the fanmade spinoff Haikyuu Otome. This game definitely puts a spin on the proverbial frog in a pot scenario.

Talk froggy out of it

Through its visual and literary spin on the popular metaphor, Froggy Pot manages to convey lessons depending on your personal thoughts on the matter. Story-wise, you start out as a curious stranger who somehow finds froggy chilling on the pot. As the game progresses, you get to learn more about him — in story hints that are both intriguing and touching. Here is where the story gets unexpectedly profound.

Accompanying its deep and touching story is a cute anime-styled visual. Designing the frog as an adorable mini-human with a bright green frog onesie immediately melts your heart and would make you want to save him before it’s too late. There’s only one location in this game, although you get to see little froggy change his position and his expression, giving a sense of life to the visual novel.

As endearing as this little frog might be, don’t get too attached. Its extremely short playthrough will definitely leave you wanting more. Regardless of whether you save him or not from the looming danger, it’s the conversations you have with him that will definitely leave a mark. Unlike most visual novels, especially Doki Doki Literature Club!, this one ends with an entirely wholesome image throughout.

A pure and wholesome experience

If you’re looking for something touching, or something tear-jerking, Froggy Pot is definitely worth a try. It has a simple gameplay concept, a surprisingly profound story experience, and a lovable art style, which all help create a memorable yet fleeting experience. It no longer becomes a task of getting the frog out, but understanding how he got there — and if you’re essentially in the same pot. Highly recommended.
