Free-to-play cross-platform MMORPG

Tarisland is a free-to-play role-playing game from Tencent. This fantasy MMORPG promises to reach a wider player base, thanks to its cross-platform support for PC and mobile devices. In this new multiplayer experience, you get to choose from one of seven playable classes. Different skill and armor sets create different gameplay experiences, necessitating teamwork to ensure your survival.

With a vast fantasy open world fully rendered in 3D, Tarisland is a promising alternative to games like Diablo IV or Genshin Impact. What sets it apart, according to the developers, is its full commitment against a pay-to-win meta in the game.

Serve the primeval gods

Tarisland revolves around three primordial gods of Omen, Oblivion, and Destiny. As legends rise and fall over the eons, the song of heroes has become silent. As an ancient evil starts creeping through the lands, you respond to the call. The game lets you play as one of the seven character classes: Ranger, Paladin, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Bard, and Barbarian. Each of them has unique designs, abilities, and equipment.

Visually speaking, this game opts for a full 3D experience, with a visual design quite similar to World of Warcraft, which the Tencent title aims to replace following Blizzard’s exit from the Chinese market. One distinct difference, however, is that this game places emphasis on not being pay-to-win. Developers committed to preventing stat-boosting items from being sold via microtransactions, only cosmetics.

The effects are nothing too special, although it does bring back the fun in cooperative multiplayer. It also features specially designed raid dungeons that are intentionally difficult for average solo players, but enjoyable when played with a guild or party. Similarly, there’s a good range of mobs designed to fit their role in the story and their location. The optimization for its animation and online servers remains to be tested.

A promising WoW replacement

Tencent steps up as Blizzard exits the Chinese market with Tarisland, a cross-platform MMORPG that will also be available globally. Although the premise and class systems immediately spark comparison, the promise of zero pay-to-win mechanics and a commitment to multiplayer dungeon experiences make this game a must-try, especially for MMORPG fans. Since the content is already promising from the outset, players should give this one a shot.
