Turn-based techno-fantasy RPG for PC
5th ERA is a free role-playing game for PC created by indie developer MissingSeven. It is a tactical fantasy adventure inspired by classic RPG titles from the 16-bit era of games. It features a grand story that will be told through multiple chapters.
Just like Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, 5th ERA boasts strategic gameplay that allows players to devise plans and approach various situations and battle scenarios in different ways. This demo version will let them experience combat firsthand and know what the story is all about.
Technology with a touch of magic
5th ERA is described as a techno-fantasy adventure, and that notion is apparent from its art style. The game takes place in the distant future, in the orbital colony of Helgon, wherein technology and magic co-exist to power everything around you. This version will feature two playable characters, namely Redian and Cecilia as you know more about the threat of the Brightlings and the mysterious white portals.
Combat is all about tactics, and if you’ve played any classic JRPG from the 1990s and 2000s, you will feel right at home here. Each character has two subclasses to choose from. Your weapons can be augmented with drives to unique results and combining them with the various skills and magic spells you’ll unlock allow for great flexibility and different playstyles.
The game boasts dynamic day/night cycles, making for a more realistic and immersive experience. As you explore the colony, you get to take on various challenges and events that provide rewards like special items, bonuses, and perks. As mentioned earlier, this is just a demo that will let you play the Prologue and Chapter 1. Development is in full swing and updates will be announced as they become available.
Brimming with promise
5th ERA is already quite a polished game despite being just a demo/preview. The art style and graphics are great, and the combat is solid and engaging. All of this is a good sign of what’s to come if development continues without a hitch. If you’re a fan of JRPGs, this is one that you should definitely check out and keep an eye out for.
