The FTP Client That Had Great Promise

Yummy FTP is an FTP client program for Mac computers that allows you to transfer files quickly and easily from servers to your computer. Developed by Yummy Software, this file transfer application is well-known and preferred for its speed, reliability, and automation capability using AppleScript. If you’re in need of such a program, Yummy FTP may be for you—provided that you don’t mind some of its major downsides and that your computer will fit its requirements.

Transfer with Ease

When you need to transfer files between devices, there are various types of file transfer programs that can help you with your specific situation. Most of these differ and depend on what platforms you’ll be using them on—whether you want to transfer between two different operating systems for the same platform or you want a cross-platform transferral altogether. However, file transfer apps also work on device-to-virtual-device routes—”downloading” is the more common term—and this type of program is mostly used to handle heavy traffic of transfers when downloading isn’t enough. This is where FTP clients come in handy. An FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a standard network protocol used for the transfer process of computer files between a client and a server on a computer network. As such, an FTP is another kind of file transfer software that allows you to do file transferral—but from online servers to devices this time. Yummy FTP is one of these and is a popular name under it.

A Force Within The Industry

A well-known app for the Mac operating systems, Yummy FTP is considered a highly-reliable program. As an FTP client, Yummy FTP is fast and has a chockful of useful features for those well-versed in operating its type of software. First and foremost, Yummy FTP supports FTP/S (FTP Secure extension), SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol), and WebDAV/S (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning), an HTTP extension that allows clients to perform remote Web content authoring operations. This software having full FTP protocol support for all of these extensions ensures that your FTP client activities won’t be vulnerable to any online attacks—very useful if you’re using Yummy FTP to manage your website or server. Yummy FTP also has an automatic failure recovery feature, directory synchronization, scheduling, bandwidth limiting, a file and folder filtering system, a built-in FTP Alias, and even a built-in text editor. Not to mention that you can also customize the program’s window view to help you work better and there’s a bookmark manager available for use.

No Longer the Greatest

Looking at Yummy FTP’s features, the whole program looks like a sweet deal, especially when you can get it for free. However, there are major drawbacks to it that will most likely prompt you to find better alternatives. For one, Yummy FTP is no longer being supported and sold by Yummy Software after its developer passed away. You can still get free copies of it online from various sites, but they can no longer be updated or fixed in case you find any bugs. In conjunction with this, Yummy FTP is now stuck at 32-bit so once your computer has macOS Catalina and higher, it won’t work anymore. Yummy FTP used to be great and promising but we’re sad to say that you should get other FTP clients over this one now—most especially if you don’t meet its strict system requirements anymore.
