Free password protection tool
PPWP Plugin is a free security plugin that lets you protect your WordPress site using passwords. It lets you protect categories, WooCommerce products, specific posts, and your complete website. Please note that it doesn’t secure the images or files that you’ve uploaded. It stores passwords in the post meta, while a cookie provides access to the protected areas.
BWPS developed this plugin to be compatible with WordPress 4.7 and up. It supports PHP version 5.6 and up. Alternatives are My Private Site, Private Content, and All-in-One Intranet.
Plugin features
PPWP Plugin lets you set unlimited passwords for your posts and multiple pages. You can use it to protect content with just one click. It will then generate a random password. It also offers an option to secure posts and pages based on user roles, like subscribers or editors. The plugin provides the use of Google Recaptcha v2 or v3 to stop abuse and spam by bots.
The use of Ajax means you can display protected content without reloading the page. It improves user experience and prevents server caching.
You can use the plugin to protect all your site’s content (except media files) or only specific sections.
An alternative to the shortcode option is the module available in Elementor, Beaver Builder, WPBakery Page Builder, and Div Builder. You can use it to set passwords, safelist roles, and customize forms with a straightforward user interface.
Because it’s hard to keep up with many passwords, the tool offers the option to unlock all protected content using a master password. You can activate, deactivate, or delete passwords and restrict the use of passwords by time and user role.
All-in-one password protection
PPWP Plugin gives you all the features you need to protect your entire website or only specific content using passwords. You can set the use of passwords based on time restrictions and user roles. Set up the passwords using shortcodes or use the module build into specific page builders.
The developer has improved the Settings user interface and added a ‘What’s news’ section in the latest release. You can now change extra fields positions in a password form and support to unlock partial content without a page refresh.
