Create and load Terraria mods

tModLoader is an application programming interface (API) for the popular sandbox game Terraria. It is essentially a mod that provides a way for you to load your own mods without needing to work directly with Terraria’s source code. Using this game utility, you can easily create mods, which are compatible with other mods. The app also allows you to play with multiple mods without worrying about compatibility issues.

Mod making made easy

tModLoader generalizes modding and makes it easier for the modder to create awesome mods. As mentioned, it does not require you to work with Terraria’s source code itself when you create a mod, so you don’t have to study all about its obscure intricacies. It also saves yourself the trouble of having to decompile and recompile Terraria.exe. Furthermore, you can create standalone mods that work well with other mods.

In addition, tModLoader also saves worlds and players separately from vanilla worlds and players. It allows you to port vanilla worlds and players into the app by simply copying over saved files. The modded content is saved in files separately from .plr and .wld files. With this, you can port modded players and worlds back to vanilla at the cost of losing your modded stuff.

To install tModLoader, make sure that you have installed the vanilla game on your device, and that you ran it at least once. After that, you can download the files of the app version you want. You also need to locate your Terraria folder in your local files. Once installed, you need to unblock the downloaded .zip files, extract its contents, and copy all of them to the Terraria folder you located. Make sure to let it overwrite files when it asks.

A handy app for modders and players

tModLoader is a great addition to Terraria for modders and players alike. If you only wish to play the game, this app can help you play multiple mods without compatibility issues. For modders, this app gives you a platform to easily create and distribute your own mod. However, it is still currently in the works, which means some modding features may not be available yet. More so, the interface of the app looks kind of rushed and evidently needs polishing.
