Remastered Version of the Side-Scrolling Adventure
Shadow Complex Remastered is a re-vamped version of the acclaimed platform adventure game, which was originally developed by Chair Entertainment in 2009. The game itself takes inspiration from the classic side-scrolling games of the 1980s and 1990s, and is sometimes referred to as a ‘Metroidvania’ game, highlighting its similarities with the Metroid and Castlevania franchises.
A Pseudo-3D Experience
Shadow Complex Remastered provides players with a pseudo-3D experience, with player movement occurring on a side-scrolling 2D basis, but with enemies moving in three dimensions. Players can explore the game’s environment with relative freedom, unlocking new weapons and abilities along the way, with these upgrades helping to open up new areas and ensuring the game progresses.
Fresh Coat of Paint
The remaster is faithful to the original game in most ways, and may not offer enough to tempt the most experienced Shadow Complex players back. However, it is the definitive version for new players. In addition to improved visuals, some small tweaks have been made to gameplay, such as the addition of new dynamic melee take downs, which have helped to enhance the core gameplay. Nevertheless, at its core it remains the same game, albeit with a welcome fresh coat of paint.
