Meme-driven Russian sim
Russian Life Simulator is a premium role-playing game that lets you experience the life of an average person in Russia. Filled with internet humor, pop culture references, and memes, this game covers different stages of life set against the backdrop of Russian culture and politics. Design-wise, this game follows the web-based RPGs of the previous decades, with a large HUD and a wide range of mixed-media content.
Collect your pension, choose the next leader, and try to survive in this Russian Life Simulator. This game feels like a cross between Meme Generator and My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant.
Rise to the top of society
At best, Russian Life Simulator is a satire of the titular society. You start as a newborn with limited options, one of them being pension collection. As you progress by leveling up or growing older, you go through different stages of Russian society. You can work at a factory, join the United Russia Rally, or loiter around the Crimean Bridge.
Gameplay-wise, it has the low production quality common among parody works. It’s more of a point-and-click RPG that takes some time to get used to. To make it easier, there’s a status bar at the top, complete with a couple of quick shortcuts for the market. Most of the items and options in your game revolve around pop culture references like excessive vodka consumption or voting for Vladimir Putin.
Aside from the low-production gameplay design that works well with its brand of Internet humor, the most divisive aspect of the game is the use of references. There are a lot of materials that won’t make sense for people who are not Russians and are not familiar with Internet references. Casual gamers will definitely be lost in its labyrinth of storyline possibilities.
A fun, niched game
Overall, Russian Life Simulator is a fun and promising game for the particular market it targets. From collecting pensions and avoiding jail time to being part of changing the course of history, every moment in this game is filled with fun. Even the low-quality game design works in its favor, making it look like any other meme, but more interactive. Recommended.
