Turn-Based Strategy Game With Real-Time Combat
Rome: Total War – Gold Edition is a military strategy game, originally developed by The Creative Assembly, with the OS X version being developed by Feral Interactive. The Gold Edition combines the original Rome: Total War base game with its official expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander. It is primarily a turn-based strategy game, but battles are handled in real-time 3D, with an emphasis on tactical decisions.
In-Depth Tactical Warfare
As the name suggests, the game is set in the ancient Roman era, with the player assuming control of one of three families or factions. Core gameplay involves moving armies, upgrading cities, managing religion and making economic decisions, while the real-time battle mechanics are in-depth and offer excellent scope. Players can control a number of different units, such as archers, infantry and cavalry units, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Terrain types, formations, fatigue and pure battle tactics all play a role in determining the outcome.
The Complete Experience
As stated, Rome: Total War – Gold Edition also includes the two official expansion packs. In Barbarian Invasion, the player gets to control one of the Barbarian nations that invaded during the decline of the Roman empire, while Alexander puts players in control of the legendary Greek king, Alexander the Great. Moreover, the game comes with several historical battles to play through. As a result, the Gold Edition provides a complete experience and the sheer amount of content will keep players occupied for a long time.
