High-Quality Software For Designing Model Railways

RailModeller Pro, developed by Isle of the Kakapo, is an application for accurately designing model railway and slot car layouts. Its extensive libraries include more than 6,000 different track elements and accessories, and layouts can expand to sizes of up to 10km x 10km. Support is also provided for elevating sections of tracks, and for creating tunnel sections, giving users all the core functionality they might need.

Steep Learning Curve

The extensive options included in the application mean that it has a steep learning curve, especially when it comes to using helixes, levels and 3D rendering. The 3D rendering itself is a nice inclusion, although the final result is fairly basic. Meanwhile, the software also includes an invaluable image export function, with support for the JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, PSD and PDF formats, allowing for images to be used in a variety of external applications.

One of the best things about RailModeller Pro is that it is a constant work in progress, with the developer adding new features regularly. The software even includes a ‘Vote for feature requests’ option, which allows users to vote on requests and the developers to know which features are most requested. Although the application can be intimidating to get to grips with, the effort is rewarded with an excellent all-round package.
