An App That Helps Address All Your External Drive Woes

Mountain is an app that lets you manage volumes, eject or unmount drives, etc. on your Mac with ease. It is one of those few third-party Mac apps that are worthy of being natively built into macOS.

Primary Features

Mountain offers quite a few functionalities. It lets you mount, unmount drives with a couple of easy clicks. You may unmount one drive or all external drives simultaneously. The ejected drives would be spun down. Those drives could either be reactivated or unplugged in the app without having to unplug and re-plug the USB cable. The app detects and sends you notifications about tools that are blocking drives from getting ejected, thereby letting you exit applications easily. Mountain could be set to push in notifications whenever an external device is unplugged safely or a new drive becomes available. Clicking the notification would launch the external drive in Finder.

Installation

Mountain installs itself as a menu-bar tool; the icon is quite similar to the ‘eject’ button of Finder. Click the particular icon and you would see a complete list of the external and internal volumes of your Mac. The external volume could comprise servers that you are connected to currently. Also, the menu lists volumes that you have connected to recently, with the eject or unmount icon turned upside down. Clicking any of the upside-down icons would result in the associated volume being remounted.
