A tower defense and top-down shooter game
Lumencraft is a strategy game with tower defense elements set in a fully destructible environment. Players must drill through the environment to find resources that will allow them to purchase weapons and tools to protect the base, which also happens to be the last bastion of humanity.
The game is played from a top-down perspective using 2D graphics, making it quite similar to Factorio, though without any of the automation. Another game with more similar gameplay (but utilizing 3D graphics) is Deep Rock Galactic.
Defend the last bastion of humanity
Lumencraft is set in the year 2221, some two hundred years after the surface of the planet became uninhabitable. Humanity is forced to survive underground in the darkness, with the only source of electricity coming from lumens — crystals with high energy potency.
Tower defense and resource gathering
The two core gameplay elements in Lumencraft are resource gathering and tower defense. The player must gather resources by mining. Those resources can then be used to purchase better weapons, tools, and other things that are necessary to survive the onslaught of the various enemies that live underground.
Great-looking but unoriginal
While Lumencraft sports some visually impressive 2D graphics, largely thanks to the dynamic lighting used, the game itself doesn’t do anything original. That being said, many people who have played the game certainly enjoyed it, so players looking for a tower defense and resource gathering game should consider Lumencraft since it’s a perfectly good example of this game type.
