Open source download manager for Rapidshare and more

If you’re a big user of Megaupload.com or Rapidshare.com, then JDownloader might help you manage and organize your downloads in a far more convenient and faster way.

JDownloader is an open source, platform independent download manager although it’s written in Java which can make it rather slow to startup when compared to other similar apps. It is optimized for those that use one-click-hosting and sharing solutions such as Rapidshare and Megaupload including for those that do not subscribe to the premium services. In fact, it’s ideal for anyone that wants to paste encrypted links from third party sites.

The huge advantage of JDownloader is that you don’t have to deal with the annoying waiting times associated with being a free member of a service such as say, Rapidshare. Often, you are asked to wait up to a minute before a download will start if you download directly from the site but JDownloader will initiate them immediately.

You can queue as many files as you want and you are updated on download progress via a status bar. I personally use DownThemAll! as my download manager because it downloads quickly, efficiently and there’s no Java involved. However, if I were a heavier user of sites like Rapidshare and Megaupload, I would definitely consider swapping.

JDownload is an excellent solution for all those Megaupload and Rapidshare users that are tired of hanging around although the reliance on Java makes it a little sluggish to use as a downloader for everything else. In summary, JDownloader is a really efficient Rapidshare downloader and more.
