The free CMS program for faster site-building

Grav is a free and open-source project management software that allows you to create and manage your website or digital content. Developed by Andy Miller, Djamil Legato, and Matias Griese, it is a self-hosted content management system or CMS, written in PHP, and based on Symfony’s framework. It’s a modern flat-file CMS that can create faster websites and manage them in much simpler terms. Grav is easy to use for both beginners and veterans. It has solid support from both its dedicated community and its team of developers.

Just let the gravity take you

Grav is fast, extensible, and offers tons of features that focus on simplicity and ease of use. For one, this program installs in just one click—simply unzip the downloaded file, and its built-in Package Manager will take care of the rest, even the updates. Managing your content is quick and hassle-free with the program’s admin dashboard. Its interface is intuitive for any user and quickly shows all the data you need to oversee. Things are easy to handle with Grav’s sophisticated caching and automated page processes.

However, if you want to be hands-on, the command-line function is also an offered option. Grav also has multi-site capabilities, letting you have one Grav run several sites and setups. When it comes to creating content, Grav’s Markdown Editor is versatile but easy to handle, and both works online and offline—plus, you can switch to HTML if you’d like. You also get comprehensive SEO capabilities and multi-language support for your target audience. Likewise, it’s easy to process and edit different types of images on your webpages.

Additionally, you can quickly create unique themes for your website by using Grav’s Theme Inheritance feature, which lets you take bits and pieces of various themes. Grav’s flat-file nature lets your websites be dynamic. It’s also easy to back up and restore your data when changing hosts or servers.  With its numerous plugins and extensive documentation and support from its developers and fans, Grav is highly flexible and user-friendly. However, the app is not advisable for large-scale projects that require a database.
