Use your Mac to lose weight
Sitting behind your Mac all day is a surefire way to put on weight. Diet Sleuth aims to stop the rot by using your Mac as a tool in the fight against weight gain.
Diet Sleuth allows you to keep track of what foods you eat each day, and their nutritional value. For each day, you select the foods you have eaten, and the number of servings you’ve eaten of each. Diet Sleuth will then automatically calculate your caloric intake, fat grams, carbohydrates, fiber, protein, cholesterol, along with sodium, potassium, and calcium. The choice of foods is huge – you can select from over 5,000 different foods in 21 categories, covering everything from fast food to baby food.
If a food isn’t there, you can create and edit your own in a separate category and enter nutritional information for your own custom foods. You can even exchange dietary info with other Diet Sleuth users and even recipes. Most importantly, Diet Sleuth keeps track of your daily weight and calculates your Estimated Energy Requirements (EER), which basically works out how many calories you burn each day.
On the downside, users have found that the cost of Diet Sleuth only includes one year of updates and requires re-purchasing the program after that, which isn’t really acceptable. In addition, the interface is very basic and cumbersome and it canĀ“t even set targets for you.
Overall though, Diet Sleuth is one of the more comprehensive dietary programs out there and any help losing weight is better than none.
