The Virtual Darkroom
Darktable operates like a computerised dark room which allows photographers to manage their digital negatives in a meaningful way. It is an open source workflow application specifically designed with the needs of photography experts in mind.
Image Management and Editing Made Easy
A raw image developer, Dartktable is a virtual darkroom which can be used in various ways by photographers and photographic editors. It allows users to manage their digital images in a handy database that allows a variety of methods for scanning pictures. For example, it allows you to view them through a zoomable function or to light them in various ways. Basically, it is designed to allow photographers to develop their raw photos and to enhance them. Functions like crop and rotate are available, as you might expect, but also more advanced options such as exposure controls. These allow users to tweak exposures for different times with a choice of slider controls or a histogram module. Base curves can also be reset using Darktable, as can a three-way white balance function which offers the ability to add tints and tonality. Lastly, bilateral filters and spot removal modules help you to clean up images with a minimum of fuss.
Effects and Editing
Darktable is more than a post-production editing suite, but it certainly offers plenty in both those areas. Watermarks, vignetting and colour correction processes are all included. It supports many operating systems.
