Darkest Dungeon is a fantasy role-playing game in which you manage a party of characters exploring a twisting labyrinth beneath an old house. This game includes a number of roguelike features, including procedurally-generated dungeons and permanent death.

New twists on a familiar genre

Darkest Dungeon takes a number of familiar game genres and combines them in new and interesting ways. It also adds some new ideas derived from role-playing games like Call of Cthulhu. As your heroes explore the dungeon and undergo traumatic experiences, they’ll accumulate stress. As stress builds up, it will give the characters quirks and penalties called afflictions; some of these are only temporary, but others may become permanent or even fatal. Survivors can reduce their stress in your hamlet, an ever-expanding base staffed by new recruits.

Challenging but rewarding

Darkest Dungeon can sometimes be punishingly difficult, but its difficulty makes it more rewarding when you finally overcome its challenge. While you’re getting butchered, you’ll be able to enjoy its simple but engaging storyline and atmospheric art.
