Free custom fonts
Brainstorm Force has developed Custom Fonts. It’s compatible with WordPress 4.4 and upwards and tested up to version 5.8.1. You can download it for free in thirteen languages.
Use the plugin to embed font files on your WordPress site. Since it’s a new plugin, it only works with a few themes and site builders. But you can also use custom CSS to add the fonts. Alternative options are Fontific, Typekit, and Styleguide.
Add unique fonts to your site
Without a plugin, it is challenging for novices to add custom files to a WordPress site. One way is to add code for the custom font to the
tag of your child’s theme.
WordPress doesn’t have a dedicated fonts folder, so you need to create a font folder within your themes directory using your FTP client. Now add a code to the child theme’s stylesheet and configure the elements that can use them with an extra code.
None of the above are simple options for WordPress beginners, which is why a plugin can be a great help.
Themes and page builders
Since the plugin is still new, it only integrates with:
- Astra
- Beaver Builder theme and plugin
- Elementor
How to use Custom Fonts
First, install and activate the plugin. Now upload your font files in all available formats to ensure browser compatibility. In the plugin window, you will see different fields to populate. First, provide the name of the font. In each of the supplied blocks, upload the corresponding font file:
- WOFF, or WOFF2
- TTF, EOT, or SVG
After clicking Add New Font, the fonts will show in the settings for Astra, Beaver Builder, and Elementor. You can find it under Body & Content > Custom.
The plugin lists your current font, with the options to apply standard bulk actions, like edit, move to trash, etc., on the right side of the screen.
If you don’t use any of the above, you can apply the custom font files using custom CSS.
Easily add unique fonts
With Custom Fonts, it is easy to add custom fonts to your WordPress site. It is essential to upload all the available formats to ensure compatibility with different browsers. Once you have uploaded the files, you can access them from the dashboard for the supported theme and page builders.
Alternatively, add the fonts with a custom CSS code. The developer has fixed a ‘header already sent’ warning in the customizer.
