A resource-collecting adventure game
Cult of the Lamb is a top-down adventure game in which the player takes on the role of a possessed Lamb who was saved from death by a mysterious stranger. The player’s goal in the action-packed game is to build a cult in the name of this mysterious stranger. The player will need to collect resources and explore the world to accomplish this task.
This game bears some resemblance to Don’t Starve and its sequel, Don’t Starve Together. The games are comparable due to the resource collection aspect, the art style, and because the world is randomly generated.
Build a cult
In Cult of Lamb, the player’s primary goal is to build a loyal following for the mysterious stranger who saved them. It involves a good amount of exploring, as the player will have to find new resources and followers to grow the cult. The player can also train the followers to explore and embark on quests.
Combat and exploration
Part of the game involves combat with non-believers of your cult. Defeating rival cult leaders is necessary to ensure the player’s cult succeeds. That includes fighting off hordes of enemies and absorbing the power of the cult leaders who have been defeated. It does introduce some cartoon violence to the game.
Procedural replayability
The game world is split into four regions, but each new game is randomly generated, giving the game added replayability. The game forces the player to explore in order to find the necessary resources and compete against other tribes. Meanwhile, the varied gameplay mechanics—combat, gathering resources, cult management—should prevent the game from feeling stale.
Frantic at times
While the game provides a varied experience in terms of game mechanics, the player is generally required to tackle all aspects if they want to succeed. That can mean frantic battles at times and grinding resource collection at others. Players who prefer a specific aspect of the game may be frustrated that they can’t play that way all of the time.
Collaboration with Don’t Starve Together
Exciting new stuff awaits players in Cult of the Lamb’s collaboration event with Don’t Starve Together. The main highlight is the new playable Follower Webber, who comes from the world of the other game. Once Webber is attained, the player will also unlock variants of his form, the Penitence mode, as well as a set of new decor. Penitence mode introduces a fresh challenge to the player, requiring them to keep an eye out on the lamb’s hunger and sleep levels. If these are left unchecked, permadeath may happen.
On the other hand, the new pieces of decoration are the following:
- Alchemy Engine
- Deerclops Figure
- Hay Wall
- Marble Tree
- Pig Head Flag
- Potted Treeguard
- Science Machine
Gain a massive following
Preach your cult-ish doctrine and expand the following of the mysterious figure who saved your life in Cult of the Lamb. This cartoonishly dark title will have you exploring foreign lands and seeking out woodland Followers to lure into joining your cult. Slay the leaders of opposing groups and absorb their power to expand yours. The worlds you can explore are randomly generated, too, introducing variation and ensuring exciting gameplay all throughout.
