Contract Demon is a free simulation video game that lets you see a sweet hellish romance take place. Developed by NomnomNami, this 2D indie visual novel is about an LGBT relationship between a happy-go-lucky angel and a flustered demon. Take note that while the art style is cute, the story mentions some adult themes.
Like My World Still Burns, Contract Demon doesn’t offer dialogue options so there’s hardly any gameplay and it can be finished in under half an hour. This can seem short so players who want more content can donate to the developer and get the game’s comic book.
An angel and a demon
The story of Contract Demon revolves around Eleni and Kamilla, an angel and a demon. The two have known each other prior—which you can read about in the game’s 10-page colored prologue comic, “First Contract”—and the story lets you continue following their misadventures into romance. This is because Eleni’s way too interested in demons for an innocent angel while Kamilla keeps trying to be a cool demon.
Uniquely, the gameplay here is practically nonexistent as there are no dialogue options whatsoever. You simply have to read the story and click to progress through the text. This also means that there are no alternative endings available. The plot is highly linear so you can easily complete the game in about half an hour if you’re a fast reader.
This can feel too short, however, so if you’re interested in donating to the developer, you can get the aforementioned comic as well as an art collection book containing the game’s adorable CGs and graphics. Story-wise, the writing is enjoyable and tastefully portrays the budding romance between the two characters—even if some of the stuff there isn’t appropriate for younger players.
Only one path to take
Overall, Contract Demon is an interesting visual novel if you’re a fan of LGBT-centric games without only one couple. While it hardly has any actual gameplay and can be too short for some players, its art and writing are nice enough to deliver a well-rounded story. Plus, you can avail of the bonus content if you’re really interested in the developer’s works.
