Google’s original site builder
When it comes to online services, Google has already proven that it can do pretty much. From social media to email, it offers almost everything related to the worldwide web. It isn’t any wonder to know that Google gave users a website creation tool. In fact, there are two of them. Classic Google Sites is Google’s website builder that has been around for over a decade. It makes creating a team or a company website as easy as editing a document. Using this development software, you can quickly add texts, videos, calendars, presentations, files, and more. Also, you can easily share all the information, not just to your organization but the whole world.
Out with the old?
As mentioned, there are two kinds of site builders. In addition to Classic Google Sites, there is also the New Google Sites. Of course, Classic Google Sites is the original version. Google developed Classic Google Sites for enabling users to build collaborative or social websites. Projects like wikis, trackers, training documentation, and customer portals are what it does best. The New Google Sites, on the other hand, is a revamped version that aligns with the rest of Google’s design and functionalities. It also has more site builders capabilities.
Classic Google Sites is made for small businesses. The hosting of your website using the app is no different than the hosting of your files in Google Drive. When you set up a website using this, you get to select the name of your site with its URL automatically generated based on the name. However, if compared to New Google Sites, its obvious that Classic Google Sites has a supremely outdated look. The template, tools, and themes it provides are old and unattractive. Moreover, the app is not that easy to use, especially if you intend to redesign or customize the content of your website.
However, that is not to say that Classic Google Sites does not outshine the New Google Sites in some areas. For one, there is a lot more that can be done in the classic version, including integrating Google tools like Google + Groups and Hangouts. However, beyond this, Classic Google Sites has nothing more to offer.
