Professional style DVD cataloging tool
iTunes is great for cataloging and organize your multimedia clips but it’s not particularly adept at dealing with DV clips. The developers of CatDV call it “iTunes/iPhoto for movies” because it aims to fill this void.
So if you’re a frequent amateur video maker or download a lot of DV clips onto your Mac, you might find CatDV Professional more useful than iMovie to catalog and organize your clips. CatDv Professional allows you to see exactly what you’ve got stored on your drive in just a quick glance. It’s the same kind of tool that professional broadcasters use to organize archive clips.
Although it’s more than suitable for individual needs, it’s probably best for those that are collaborating on a project that need to access, and upload clips to a large archive. It can be used over a network server so that several users can update it at the same time in real time. It’s also very flexible, handling just about every DV type from uncompressed DV to HD, stills and audio files. CatDV Professional is however a huge program for the average user and it takes some time to learn exactly how to use it and organize clips in the correct way.
CatDV Professional is a powerful cataloging solution for those that regularly transfer DV videos onto their Mac or need a semi-professional cataloging solution.
