Free 2D visual novel about female sports and same-sex love
Butterfly Soup 2 is a 2D visual novel game sequel about an Asian American teen who plays baseball and falls in love with another female player. It features historic events from 2009 and deals with school life in the San Francisco Bay area.
The romance game is a sequel to Butterfly Soup with the same setting, but it doesn’t have such a strong sports theme this time. You don’t need to play the original game to appreciate the sequel. This visual novel has an anime style like Nerdy Streamer Overload.
There is no way to lose the game
This romantic story allows you to alter your experience by giving you options as you play, but all the options eventually lead to the same ending and the same major events. The choices in the game are more about interaction choices and character dynamics.
Well thought out and non-aggressive
It seems the writer wished to add as many themes as possible without offending too many people. The game comes with a very long content warning, but the offensive elements are very mild on their own merit and even when taken as a whole through the 2-4 hour long game.
The changes in art style really stand out
Due to the time and budget restraints on this indie developer, this love story game has a single art style for much of the game, but there are parts where the visual assets are of much lower quality. These low-quality sections really stand out in contrast simply because of how well-made the other sections of the game are.
To many themes
This 2D anime visual novel has many mixed themes, and it sometimes gets in the way of the narrative. The game has a tough time sticking to a single point, which is why character motivations seem to appear rather abruptly, depending on the current theme or message.
