Free search/replace plugin
Better Search Replace is a free WordPress search/replace plugin where you can search and replace specific strings in tables when migrating to a new domain. It’s similar to CM Search & Replace, Search & Replace by Inpsyde, and Search Regex. You can specify several tables at once in the dashboard, while there’s also support for serialization.
If you’re worried about the migration, you can perform a dry run first to ensure all the fields are covered. However, you’ll need to have the exact string details to ensure you don’t lose data or mess up your site. You can contact the developer for support if you have the Premium version.
Search and replace strings in tables
When you want to migrate your WordPress site to a new domain, you’ll need to copy over some of the tables that relate to comments, metadata, links, options, and more. Better Search Replace assists with a search/replace function where you can look for specific tables and replace some of the strings.
The only issue is that you’ll need to get the string data perfectly correct. One incorrect piece of data on the string can have severe consequences to the site.
Support several languages
If you have a website that covers different languages, Better Search Replace offers support for English, French, German, and Spanish. You can also contribute to the open-source development of the site via GitHub. However, you’ll only be able to email the developer for support if you upgrade your account to the Premium edition.
Better Search Replace Premium features
There are some advanced features that are only available in the Premium version. For instance, you can see the results of changes after you performed the search and replace. If you want to repeat the same task later, you can save and load profiles to make it easier. Furthermore, you’ll receive updates and support for one year.
The shadowy face
Better Search Replace is perfect for if you need to move your site to a new domain and aren’t sure where to start. It does most of the heavy lifting for you, as long as you have the exact correct details of the table strings. There are no hectic server requirements, either.
