MarsEdit 4, developed by Red Sweater Software, is a blog editing platform, allowing users to manage, create, edit and publish blog posts from their desktop. It is compatible with a large number of popular blogging platforms, including WordPress, Tumblr and Blogger, supports offline editing, and allows multiple different blogs to be managed from the same place, even if the are hosted on different platforms.

Tools for Writers

The application includes a number of useful tools for writers, including a built-in spell checker and advanced support for HTML and Markup formats. With that being said, one limitation is that the formatting bar itself only caters for HTML and rich text. Users can sync the software up with their blogs on various blogging platforms, simply by entering the URL. MarsEdit 4 will then allow users to log in, using the credentials for that platform. A full archive of previous blog posts will be available, while new posts can be previewed and uploaded easily.

Comprehensive

The main issues with MarsEdit 4 are things that the developers cannot be blamed for. As an example, the software sometimes struggles with blog platforms that require multi-layered authentication. Moreover, it may be too advanced for users who have simple needs, like managing a single personal blog. Nevertheless, the application is comprehensive, has an excellent user interface, and ranks among the best programs of its type.
