Capture and annotate screenshots
Snip is a small utility application developed by Tencent Technology. This free app is one of those handy tools that allow you to capture your screen. It lets you take a screenshot of your entire screen or only capture a portion of it.
As it is a menu bar app, accessing Snip will be easy. You only need to tap the black icon placed on your status bar after installation. You can also use the keyboard shortcut to enable capture. Moreover, the app comes with image editing tools, allowing you to add annotations to your screenshots.
How do you use this app?
Like other screen capturing apps, taking a screenshot with Snip is easy. You only need to press the Start button, select the area you want to grab, and release the mouse. You can also resize the capture area as it will always display the size indicator. Moreover, the app can detect windows, allowing you to take a screenshot with a single click.
As mentioned, the app also comes with annotation tools. These include rectangle, ellipse, arrow, brush, and text. Additionally, there are six colors available for each annotation type: red, yellow, green, blue, black, and white. Naturally, you also get to select the line thickness for geometric items and the font size. However, the line thickness is only three levels, and the font is limited to seven predefined sizes.
Users also need to know that the program does not automatically save your work. With this, always make sure that you press the Save button. By default, it will save your output files on your desktop. However, you can customize the save setting and use another folder. However, the process is quite tricky. The other saving-related options can also be confusing for users.
Is the app good?
To sum it up, Snip is a useful tool for anyone who wants to grab screen captures. It is easy to capture your screen, thanks to its intuitive interface. Additionally, it allows you to add annotations before you save your output. However, the annotation tools are basic and quite limited. It also does not help that the saving options are tricky and not properly explained.
