An APRS Client for All Intents and Purposes

PocketPacket is basically an APRS (automatic packet reporting system) client that works with a range of Apple devices, including the Mac laptop and desktop. In case you didn’t know, APRS is a pocket-based communication protocol that amateur radio operators across the world use.

Terminal Node Controller

PocketPacket employs a software-based terminal node controller (TNC), letting you directly document and visualize, or transmit 1200 encoded baud packets with the help of a VHF radio transceiver. The tool also lets you receive and send packets online, by choosing a tier 2 global APRS-IS network server. The tool can be used to report status, position, weather, station capabilities, or any other data real-time. Also, PocketPacket can be used to broadcast one-to-one messaging or announcements.

Visual Presentation

Incoming information are displayed on a map, since most packets define a certain object with a particular location and symbol. By choosing a symbol, you could see the most recent data sent, along with the raw packets made by it. All objects available are presented in a list too, which lets you look for the objects you want.PocketPacket lets you follow an APRS network’s status or submit information about your station. Get real-time weather information from local stations directly, monitor moving objects, etc. You may also have a complete visual of packet activity in the form of a portable, small package.
