Generate photos for viewing with 3D glasses

Remember what it’s like when you sit in a 3D cinema without the red and green glasses on? The screen just looks like a weird blurred tapestry of red and green.

The genius happens when you put the glasses on and the images jump straight out of the screen at you. Well you can do exactly the same thing with on the Mac with the appropriately named RedGreen. In fact, the name is a tad misleading because it also works with red and blue glasses, but the effect is the same. All you need is a digital camera (even a webcam will do) to take two photos – one photo from the view of the left eye and one from the right eye.

Simply open the photos with RedGreen and it will calculate a 3D image that can be viewed with 3D glasses. Open one for the left eye and the other for the right eye. Then click on the 3D tab to see what your image looks like. I found that my images weren’t separated enough to create a 3D image but you can increase the distance between them by clicking on the increase and decrease distance tools at the top. One other problem is that the Preferences pane simply would not appear when I clicked on it so I’m not sure if you can configure RedGreen in any way.

If you’ve still got some 3D glasses from when you went to the cinema as a kid, then you could have a lot of fun with this simple to use but original app.
