Input the right sequences in this free puzzle game

RASTER❖PRIME [REMIX] is a free puzzle video game wherein you must solve strange sequences to unlock the deeper mysteries of the universe. Developed by Punk Labs, this 2D pixelated indie game offers an 8-bit retro sci-fi adventure through the vastness of space.

RASTER❖PRIME [REMIX] is available on both PC and mobile—with this being the remake of the developer’s 2017 version on mobile. It features difficult but challenging levels and truly tests those who are patient with its gameplay. However, it can get tricky to follow at first due to the lack of a tutorial.

These symbols mean something

In RASTER❖PRIME [REMIX], a peculiar ancient monolith was recently discovered in the TRAPPIST Star System—with various embellished obelisks surrounding it. These obelisks have binary controls embedded in them and with the right sequences, you can unlock the next one. Your goal is to solve all puzzles in order to open the monolith—and discover more mysteries to answer. However, this story is the type to leave things open-ended.

From the start, you’ll notice that the story’s introduction cutscene is textless. While the pixel art graphics are great, the game doesn’t really explain things clearly—and this extends to the tutorial, as well. The controls aren’t explained to you so you’ll be testing your keyboard and mouse at the start. It’s simple enough, though: just use either your mouse, the WASD keys, or the arrow keys to input the sequences.

There are 8 main stages available, with 8 levels each. They’re all divided by the type of raster shape you need to input on the obelisks. The difficulty scales sharply for each level, as the shapes will start molding into each other and the symbols don’t light up with your inputs until you get the sequence right. One general rule is that you start from top to bottom.

Could use some player guidance

All in all, RASTER❖PRIME [REMIX] is a wonderful retro puzzle game you can try out on either PC or mobile. While there’s no proper tutorial to guide you well on the controls and gameplay mechanics, there’s no rush in figuring things out as even the levels themselves don’t fail you when you get a sequence wrong. This is a highly recommended game for those seeking a challenge.
