Watch YouTube movies on your desktop

Air is Adobe’s attempt to get involved in Web 2.0 and make interaction between the web and your desktop closer than ever before.

DeskTube is based on Adobe Air and aims to make using YouTube more of a desktop, rather than a Web, experience. You’ll therefore have to make sure you have Adobe Air installed before you can use which will add a few minutes onto your installation time. It’s worth the effort however as DeskTube is a beautifully-designed application which looks and works great.

One thing I really like is that the developer hasn’t forgotten that seeing the comments is almost as important as seeing the videos in YouTube. You can view and post comments although unfortunately, only one at a time. It would have been better if you could view all the comments posted in a simple list. However, this is a small issue as the rest of the application is very well designed offering you most of the major management features you get on YouTube’s site but in a much nicer interface. I also like the fact that you can subscribe and send videos to Twitter from DeskTube and perhaps the only thing missing is a download function.

DeskTube is an excellent addition to the Adobe Air arsenal. Easy to use, well presented and very quick and responsive, it’s almost better than the real thing.
